Survivor: Winners at War is the 40th season and will feature twenty of the show's previous winners.

In the ultimate showdown of the greatest winners, Devon Shelley came out of the war bathed with his allies blood and also the respect of the jury as he was awarded the win over Frank Gross and Ronald Donaldson in a 5-4-1 vote.

The past winners who did not make the cast were:

• Janette Archuleta (Africa) was not invited for playing in Champions vs Challengers.
• Jordan Young (Java) was not invited.
• Alec Lewis (Blood vs Water) was not invited.
• Susana Strong (Papua New Guinea) was not invited.
• Sean Lawrence (All Stars) was considered, but cut from the final roster.
• Clare Rice (Cuba) was considered, but cut from the final roster for playing in Champions vs Challengers.
• Damian Masters (Cagayan) was considered, but cut from the final roster.
• Jakob Mason (Japan) was not invited.
• Jaylen Trevino (Survivor: Fiji) was not invited for playing in Champions vs Challengers.
• Hanna Marin (Tokelau) was not invited.
• Ezra Miller (Mexico) was considered, but cut from the final roster.
• Noah Seavers (Mamanuca Islands) was considered, but cut from the final roster.
• Jafari King (Peru) was not invited.
• Adrianna Crawford (Italy) was considered, but cut from the final roster.

Twists/Changes

• Returning Players: Twenty former Sole Survivors return for a chance to bag another title.
• Increased Prize Money: For this season, the winner will receive $2,000,000.
• One World Format: The two competing tribes, Chay and Tanan, will be competing against each other while living together on the same beach in a more indefinite time. 
• Fire Tokens: A new twist, Fire Tokens allow the castaways to purchase creature comforts, food, or game advantages. 
• The Survivor Market: The Survivor Market can only be accessed during the night. A note would be hidden that directed them to meet a boat at a specific time. The player would ride the boat to the Survivor Market place in which they can buy an advantage for fire tokens or given the opportunity to earn a fire token. The Survivor must choose one or the other and must return to camp before dawn. The final time to visit the Survivor Market is the final six.
  • Tribe Challenge Advantage: The challenge advantage expired after the third challenge made after the purchase. 
  • Extra Vote: The Extra vote must be used at any of the next 3 tribal councils the buyer attended before it officially expired. 
  • Hidden Immunity Idol: The Hidden Immunity Idol expired after the third tribal council the buyer attended. 
  • Super Idol: The Super Idol cost six fire tokens. Because of the high price the super idol and intensity of the advantage, the idol expired at the final six and could only be bought once.
